My love for teaching first grade comes from my students' love for learning! Every new school year begins with a brand new group of students all with different personalities, backgrounds and abilities, yet we quickly all become one family.
My students know our classroom is a place of safety, acceptance, positivity, creativity and FUN!
When you walk in our room you may hear us singing, see us dancing or working hard in groups! Sometimes you can forget that these students attend a low-income, urban, Title 1 school district, where they receive free breakfast and lunch everyday.
I typically have 25 first graders who all have a story of their own. My class always consists of ELL students (english language learners), learning support students (students with specific academic disabilities), Title 1 Reading students, and speech Impaired and/or visually impaired students. I will also have students who read well above grade level and those that excel in math. The profile of my students may change year to year yet the goal remains the same: To create a warm, safe, welcoming environment filled with respect for each other and where every student has a place to belong!
My Project
My first graders love to use dry erase boards for practicing our math and spelling. We use these boards on a daily basis whether it be to practice skills or play spelling games. The dry erase boards I currently have in my classroom are years old. The corners are broken, they don't erase well, and quite honestly they just aren't very pretty to look at.
I would love to start a new school year with fresh materials for my students!
The dry erase boards, along with the clip boards for group work, are great ways to motivate my students. They are 6-7 years old and LOVE to use anything that is outside the run of the mill paper and pencil. These little things mean so much within my classroom!
A clean and organized classroom filled with updated materials promotes a safe, positive and fun environment that allows for creativity to bloom!
