My Students
My students are wonderfully kind and respectful. They work hard and play hard, and are fabulous learners, in spite of being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Each student is unique in his own way, and each learns best given visual support and motivation.
My students are making monumental learning gains through music, movement, and technology, but we need more iPads.
My students choose what they are working for before work begins. They then follow a visual schedule to complete work at 8 different learning centers, which include reading fluency and phonics, math journals and number of the day, literacy, sensory, IEP goals, and science.
My Project
My ASD students require motivation to continue working hard. There are eight boys in my classroom, with only one iPad. Of course, they all want the iPad for their reward for working hard, and get extremely frustrated when they have to wait.
Waiting for a reward is difficult for students on the spectrum.
They often become frustrated and have meltdowns because they worked hard, so why can’t they get their chosen reward? Eventually, they will stop working. All students can learn when they have motivation to continue.
Having more classroom iPads will create the momentum and motivation required to continue working hard and creating more independent.
