Imagine coming to work where everyone is your cheerleader. Not only do your coworkers want you to succeed, but they also do their best to help you reach your goals. This is the feeling my students get when they come to school each day. My students are like a family. Many of them have been in the same class since kindergarten and I have been one of their teachers for two years now. They love to learn and encourage one another in all aspects of school. You will often overhear whispers in class of students trying to help each other with a hard problem, or in the hallway giving "gentle reminders" to their classmates to encourage good decision-making.
Diverse and creative; my students have many different learning styles and needs.
Many of my students have special accommodations to help them be successful at school. Attending a magnet school for the arts, they also enjoy expressing themselves through creative avenues, such as dance, singing, visual arts, orchestra, and theater. I couldn't be more proud to teach this group of kids!
My Project
All of the math games will help provide for my students to build basic math skills needed to be successful in years to come. Fractions are one of the most commonly fretted over concepts by students, teachers, and parents! Pizza Fraction Fun Game, Fraction Stax, Fractazmic Cards, and Fraction City will provide hands on exposure to this elusive concept in a variety of scenarios.
Building critical thinking skills through strategy-based games is a great way for students to become more confident with problem solving in math.
The games Rush Hour, Mastermind, Mental Blox, and Gobblet accomplish this goal in an engaging and fun way.
And let's not forget the importance of mental math abilities! As students grow older, math problems grow more complex. Students often get bogged down in the small steps and can't see the end of the problem. Games like Even Steven's Odd, Math Dice, and 24 Game will help my students increase their automaticity and mental math abilities.
