Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are a diverse group of learners who speak several different languages. Although many come from different countries, we have come together to form an amazing community. My students are a very fun, loving, and very active group of kids. Our school is a high poverty school with 85% of our students who receive free or reduced lunch. Although my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom, they still come to school with smiles on their faces and ready to learn.
My Project
Scholastic News Magazine is a great way to get my students reading non-fiction texts while learning science and social studies standards. Scholastic News Magazine will help my classroom integrate our science and social studies standards with our literacy standards. Students can practice identifying text features, decoding words, and understanding a variety of texts in just one magazine. We have such a short time with our students that integrating our standards is the best way to fit everything our students need to learn into a few hours a day. These magazines will also get our students excited about our science and social studies units.
