Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are beautiful, hardworking kids that are eager to learn and try their best to be successful. They have an open mind that is ready to learn. They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and don't have the means to purchase all the resources they need. Especially during this pandemic.
My students are all currently isolated at home do to the COVID-19, most do not go outside due to not having backyards in the Bronx.
Since they are isolated at home my students engage in online tasks for academic instruction which includes google classroom, reading, phonics and math programs and watching videos.
Our school is in a low-income area and is largely populated by ESL students. Our students range in levels from the most struggling to the highest achieving. They are supportive of one another and are always looking to better themselves. They are truly a wonderful group who often teach us lessons in acceptance and friendship.
My Project
Nearly all of students come from low-income households in my school. As with many families worldwide, this pandemic has been extremely trying. This is no different for my 26 student’s families.
I see firsthand how limited my students' resources are at home.
To combat that, I am asking for some help. Supplying my students with math journals, crayons, pencils, and writing journals will help to alleviate some of the obstacles my families face with remote learning, especially problems with WiFi and technology. My kids will be able to work on writing and math journals. These necessities will not only bring resources to my families, but also a smile! Thank you in advance for your generosity!
