My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything. My classroom feels more like a home than a classroom. Our class works together as a family and not just as individual students. My second grade students are lifelong learners. They enjoy coming to school and learning new things. They are able to come to school prepared to do their very best work. They work as a team in order to collaborate to meet their learning goals.
A library display shelf is the perfect chance to expose my students to books that they might not normally pick up on their own or might not be able to read on their own Placing these books on their own shelf inherently adds value to them and tells students, "This book must be great. Mrs. Berry really likes it and wants me to read it! The shelf is always open and students are welcome to snag books anytime they finish their quality work ahead of their peers. This book shelf will be used every day by every student.
Hands down, the library book shelf will expose my second graders to many different authors and genres of books.
It will also help integrate science and social studies into our daily learning. Books are such a wonderful treasure, and what a wonderful way for the students to see them displayed with bright covers and enticing titles.
