Greetings! I teach two energetic fifth grade homerooms that utilize our class space for English Language Arts and Social Studies. Ours is a co-teaching team that supports general and special education students with diverse needs.
Our students are becoming independent, responsible middle schoolers and that transition should start with an amazing classroom environment.
My students walk in full of questions and excitement because they love middle school and the opportunities it offers. Many students have supports in place at home, but there are some that rely on what school can offer. We celebrate books, creativity and a growth mindset!
My Project
In our district, fifth grade is a transitional year from elementary school to middle school, so we work hard all year to support our students as they become more independent and responsible learners. My students strive to achieve academically to earn the privilege of selecting among flexible seating options.
We have found flexible seating to be a great addition to a productive co-taught middle school classroom.
By far, floor options are the most popular, and I'd love to build upon that preference and offer these students cozy, durable, and safe carpets made for a classroom setting. I have requested two, 4 x 6 navy colored carpets to place near classroom library shelves to be used with my low tables. This project would reach my 44 students over the course of the school year by allowing them a foundation for a comfortable setting upon which to engage in a variety of independent and small group tasks. Thank you!
