This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a 6-12 grade campus in North East Houston. Of the 951 students, we prepare for college 98 of them are Class of 2020.I have adopted three of these students as my own and want to prepare care packages for them as they depart for college this summer.
As my school, we believe that being EPIC (Empowering others, Persevering, having Integrity, and being Compassionate) will elevate our students to a standard of excellence academically, socially, and emotionally that will prepare them to be successful on the road to and through college!
Our school's mission is to increase the number of college-ready graduates in North Forest. More than 90 % of our graduates go on to attend college.
My Project
I have adopted three seniors at my school and followed them throughout their senior year. Now that each of them has been accepted into a four-year college, I am upping the ante. I am hosting a competition between the three of them (2 girls, 1 boy) where the person who submits the most scholarship applications will win a Chromebook. All three of my seniors will become first-generation college students, and currently, all three of them are without a laptop computer. We usually get together at school to submit their paperwork using school-sponsored computers. This project will certainly be the gift that keeps on giving for my students.
