This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a high poverty school, my 1st graders face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Most of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Some students come from homes where English is not regularly spoken, if at all.
Despite these challenges, my students love being a part of our special classroom community and are eager to become master readers, writers, and mathematicians!
My goal as their teacher is to create an environment that fosters a love of learning and a sense of belonging for all students . I want to create positive experiences that make them feel like the successful learners I know they are.
My Project
Morning tubs are a great way to start the day. Students come to school facing a full day of academics. Instead of paper/pencil work as soon as they walk in the door, morning tubs give students the opportunity to engage in an exciting activity and with other students.
Play is a healthy, fundamental part of childhood that stimulates brain development.
Play is critical for later success in reading, writing, and mathematics. I am requesting bristle blocks, gears, Tinkertoys, magnetic tiles, and a marble run set. These activities will allow students to play and explore freely while providing the chance to practice problem solving, fine motor, and social skills.
