Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom will be abuzz with new first graders! The students at my school each come in with varying backgrounds both culturally and academically.
Students come to school with an inquisitive mind ready to be filled with new experiences.
My school and neighborhood is very inviting and supportive. Although parents are unable to volunteer due to their many jobs they are always willing to take time to talk about their child's progress and how they can help at home. Students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch due to the economic standings of many of our families.
My Project
The morning is a hard time to get things started. I've tried morning work worksheets and just starting our learning right when we walk in. Students sometimes trickle in late or aren't fully awake to engage in meaningful lessons. In order to change our daily routine I wanted to introduce morning tubs.
Morning tubs students the opportunity to practice fine motor skills, learn how to communicate and work together and practice with math and language arts skills.
My students rarely have time to be just kids. I want to give them a chance to work on concepts in a stress free environment. As well as gain desirable traits they will use later in life.
By having materials like pattern blocks, connect four, stack up game, magnetic letters and more my students will be able to practice sight words with connect four, practice letter sound patterns with magnetic letters and work as a team to stack up blocks. These materials will give students the opportunity to try something new and work on a skill in the morning while their friends arrive.
