Morning Tubs: Create & Explore

Help me give my students a chance to use their imagination to create things using everyday materials like blocks, Play-Doh, and magnetic tiles.

My Students

The students that I teach come from working parent homes. 41.1% of students were considered at risk of dropping out of school. 17.8% of students were enrolled in bilingual and English language learning programs. My students range from above level to at least one year below level in reading. I have a class of 23 consisting of 11 boys and 12 girls. Each of my students are special and many have activities outside of school that they enjoy.

My campus is currently a PK - third grade campus.

Our class sizes range from 20-22 children.

My Project

Some of the materials that are being requested are: building blocks, magnetic tiles, learning dominoes, modeling clay and pattern blocks. These materials will be organized into tubs and given to the students in the morning while they are waiting to start instruction. The morning work tubs will allow the students to use their imaginations to create given little directions and plenty of materials. Each student will be paired with a partner to create something. As of now the students are given "busy work" to complete before instructions begins. Students are often not given opportunities to build and create during the school day. These tubs will give ALL students that opportunity on a daily basis. Each morning tub will have a task card and materials.
