The end of the year can bring about different emotions for scholars. For most, it brings about a feeling of excitement because as one chapter is ending, another one is soon to begin. For others, however, it can bring a sense of sadness. The positive interactions that they are used to having every day have to come to a temporary end because of the end of the school year. As a result, attendance and excitement for school may dwindle.
The goal for this project is to not only give scholars a sense of purpose as we near the end of the school year, but to expose them to something new--something they may have never experienced before!
Attending a Title I school should not limit scholars on what they are able to participate in and be exposed to. The time has come to move away from treating scholars who go to inner-city schools as if they are not able to achieve great things or be exposed to great things just because of the area that they live in. It is no longer acceptable for the type of well-rounded scholar we are trying to cultivate.
By donating to this project, you will be expanding the possibilities of scholars who come from a community where everything around them is negative and tells them that they "can't". Providing another outlet for scholars to positively express themselves can negate some of the negativity that they go through on a day-to-day basis. Donating towards a video camera and a green screen is just the start of introducing a new activity at KIPP WAYS, but also an activity that can have a long-standing impression.
