My Students

Spanish, Tagalog, Cantonese, Mandarin, Arabic, Hindi are some of the languages our students speak; our school community and the surrounding neighborhood is teeming with rich cultural diversity. More than 80 percent of our students receive a free or reduced-priced lunch based on low socio-economic status. While this does play a large role in access to resources within the community, it should not hinder students' opportunities for a wonderful education. Their smiling faces each morning are my inspiration to do all I can to provide them with one.

My Project

Morning calendar is a critical activity in kindergarten. Not only is it a time to begin our day by building a classroom community, but it is also a great opportunity to practice foundational math skills in the context of our calendar. Students learn sequential order through the numbered days listed on our calendar (as well as skip counting), place value by keeping track of the number of days in school, adding and subtracting through the support of ten frames, and so much more!

Your donation will help provide our students with a daily opportunity to enhance their foundational math skills through a fun, engaging activity.
