We are in a small, rural community in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. We are an entirely free lunch school and many of our students rely on us for both breakfast and lunch.
Many students are not provided with life experiences many of us see as typical and we try to fill those gaps as much as possible.
They like to move and explore the world around them. I am looking to provide my students with a creative and meaningful learning experience. I try to focus on their growth potential and encourage them to have a growth mindset. By doing this, I hope to inspire our earliest learners to love education and learning.
My Project
Every morning we have a time where students are coming in and getting settled. Brain Bins are a way to give students time to practice many skills while having fun using their imagination and playing.
I know that without time for imaginative play and an opportunity for students to develop social competency, our students are not learning skills to help them grow!
I know that the high pressures of state-testing and the ever-increasing demands on educators are limiting the access to these kinds of activities. I want to give my students all the options to grow and develop all their skills, not just the ones on the state test!
These STEM based bins will help my students enjoy school, succeed, and learn!
