Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love coming to school each day and seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter of my students. School is not easy for them, yet as soon as they enter our classroom, they are eager for the day to begin. They know there are expectations to be met, schedules to follow, and lessons to be learned. In addition, they know they will be fed, cared for, and be held accountable for their choices.

This is the third year we are open as a Charter School. We began as a K-2 school, and as of this year, we are a K-4 school, and we will continue to build onto our school each year. Our student population come from homes that are below the poverty line, where 90% of the families are economically disadvantaged. The majority of our students come from homes where the only language spoken by their parents is Spanish.
My Project
This year I am looking for an alternate to the usual morning worksheets. I am asking for many different activity sets that will challenge them to explore, create, communicate with others to problem solve, while engaging them and getting them excited about their day. Breakfast will move quickly now because they will be motivated to begin with the bins.
Some of the items I have requested: The build & Learn Geometric Shapes Kit, Geostix, and Pattern Blocks, will help prepare and expose the students to our math curriculum, in such a way that they will think they are just playing.
