This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My teaching is inspired by the Orff-Schulwerk method, which uses xylophones and other percussion instruments to engage kids in creative music making. These xylophones are accessible to all different types of learners, and adaptable to endless possible lessons and activities. Specifically, I am seeking xylophones that are compact, because I travel from class to class to teach music. This project will provide me with a portable xylophone, as well as a bass bar, which is a special extra low note to create a more full sound.
Everyday when I open the door for music class, the first thing my students do is scan my music cart to see what instruments they might get to play that day.
I am working to keep that excitement alive, and every new instrument increases the hands-on music making time.
