My Students

I am the Library Media Specialist at my school. I have the best job in the world where I get to share my love of reading and technology with my students. I am lucky enough to get to see all 700+ students at my school.

Pre-K - 5th grade students have FUN in the library while reading, creating and collaborating.

I love watching their unique personalities blossom throughout the year. Each book choice, STEM creation and conversation is just a small glimpse into who my students are outside of the classroom. My students are future athletes, teachers, engineers, soldiers, police officers, doctors, community helpers and if we go with the majority - YouTubers!

My Project

I want to provide reluctant and struggling readers with the option of listening to their library books. I will download the books that my students request and have them loaded onto mp3 players.

The mp3 players, loaded with audiobooks, will be available for checkout in the library.

I am hoping that the audiobooks will encourage some of my non-readers to READ! AND who knows, maybe they will find something they enjoy and continue reading!

I currently have several audiobooks in my library database, but students don't always have a device to listen to them on. The mp3 players are a cheap alternative to listen to audiobooks and they don't have the same distraction as using a tablet to read.
