Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title I School. Our student population includes a high population of English Language Learners and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
Some people may say that because of their backgrounds, my students are at a disadvantage, but that is far from the truth.
The students in my class know they are capable of great things and they work hard to achieve their goals. This year my students have decided that our class will be be the best 5th grade class in our district on the end of levels. We analyze our data after every weekly test and set goals for how to improve next time. It is clear they understand that you do not receive an education, you earn it.
My Project
Covid-19 has impacted so much when it comes to the world today, and that does not skip over my 28 kiddos. They have experienced so much instability in the last 2 years it has really harmed their social, emotional and academic growth. They need so much more that I can provide sometimes.
However, these items will help to provide them with what they need to grow and learn effectively again.
The snacks provided will help me to continue to provide snack time, which is so important for my students academic success and emotional regulation. Sometimes a student who is emotionally frayed just needs a snack to help them refocus. The desks purchased in this project will allow my students a place to sit that is not connected to someone else. Some kiddo's just need to have their own space in order to feel comfortable and a table just won't do. Last of all the cleaning supplies will help make it easier for me to keep my classroom safe for my kiddos.
