This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the sweetest class ever! I have 20 1st graders. Ten are boys and ten are girls. I'm the only teacher in the classroom. My students enjoy coming to school every day. Their favorite part of the day is when they get to read a book to their teacher. Our school is located in Portsmouth and is a Title-1 school, which means that majority of the students come from low-income households. Our school receives free breakfast, lunch, and snack daily. Many students come to school without the proper school supplies.
We have so much fun in my class, and the kids love to learn!
Please help me to teach them in fun and engaging ways.
My Project
Every day we have reading centers. While I am teaching a small group of 4 to 5 students how to read, the rest of the class is engaged in independent reading and writing activities.
This projects includes different writing activities that my students will be excited to do independently each day.
We are requesting Nonfiction Sequence & Write Tiles which are pictures that the students can sequence to help them write nonfiction passages. We are asking for a Sentence Block center where students link blocks together to create their own sentences. We are also asking for a Sight Word center. It will help students to master their sight words as they create fun rebus-style sentences.
