As a special education teacher, in a school for students with significant intellectual disabilities the demographics of my students are very diverse. My students have a wide range in academic, social, and health related needs. All my students have a disability, those disabilities could include: intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disabilities, behavior disabilities, dual diagnosis, Autism, complex health needs, and complex communication needs.
My current students are in 7th grade ranging in skills academically, physically, behaviorally, and intellectually.
My students are both caring and unique. They enjoy learning by creating, engaging and collaborating. My goal is to give them a safe, loving environment with the appropriate supplies, resources and materials to foster their learning every single day. I want them to come to school knowing they have someone who cares not only about their academic progress, but also their dreams and aspirations, and life outside of school.
My Project
These hands on math, reading, and writing manipulatives will help my students work on their basic math, reading and writing skills. These hands on activities will help stimulate their senses while working, which in turn will make the activities and curriculum more fun and engaging.
The Build-A-Number Houses and Peg Number Boards will help my students work on their basic number sense.
The Find A Letter Activity and Alphabet Match will work on students basic letter knowledge, along with their fine motor skills. The Don't Let the Bug Fall game will work on students fine motor skills as well as color recognition.
All of these activities will work on the students basic academic and fine motor skills, to help engage and inspire the students.
