My students need 8 leveled book sets and some high-quality picture books to build their reading skills and bring literature into other curricular areas.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Are you interested in closing the achievement gap? Would you like to help inspire and teach the next Nellie Bly, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Barack Obama, or Artemisia Gentileschi? Well, with a donation towards a quality leveled library, you can! I teach kindergarten in a high-need urban charter school in New York. My students have entered the classroom this year eager to learn to read and practice their new skills with interesting, quality, authentic texts.
Unfortunately, my new classroom is seriously lacking in literature. I want to ensure that the students are reading books that both meet their educational needs and increase their interest in a variety of subject matter, and I need your help!
By using books for children at their reading levels and books that focus on high-interest areas I can more easily differentiate instruction, peak student interest in a variety of topics, and increase young readers' abilities to read fluently and with strong comprehension. A group of books geared towards different classroom center activities will allow me to bring literacy into a wider variety of curriculum and demonstrate to the students that reading is everywhere. The additional books I've requested are perfect for read-alouds and phonics instruction. With the books I've requested in addition to the books I was already able to receive through donors choose, my classroom library will be better able to support the budding readers in my class.
My classroom doors have opened to twenty kindergarten students ready and eager to read and learn and your donations can help ensure they have the ability to do so!
