My Students
'Geronimo Stilton' is in fashion! He's an Italian mouse who has the WILDEST adventures. Our school library recently acquired 5 'Geronimo Stilton' titles - and the kids can't get enough of him. So let's feed that fire for reading with some new titles from the same series. More Stilton, please!
Stilton fans are mainly second and third graders...but they do include some 8th graders, too!
These kids attend a K-8 Center in South Florida. About 85% of our children qualify for free or reduced lunch, i.e. they come from homes with low household incomes. That's because our parents tend to be immigrants from Central and South America or the Caribbean, with low-paying jobs in the local tourism industry. So our kids don't come from families with a lot of English-language reading materials, and they tend not to get taken to the public library. That makes our SCHOOL library vitally important in turning them into regular readers and successful students.

Here's what Wikipedia has to say about the-hero-of-the-moment. 'The title character is a talking mouse who lives in New Mouse City on Mouse Island. A best-selling author, Geronimo Stilton works as a journalist and editor for the fictional newspaper The Rodent's Gazette. He has a younger sister named Thea Stilton, a cousin named Trap Stilton, and a favorite little nephew, nine-year-old Benjamin Stilton. Geronimo is a nervous, mild-mannered mouse who would like nothing better than to live a quiet life, but he keeps getting involved in far-away adventures with Thea, Trap, and Benjamin, and sometimes Aunt Sweetfur. The books are written as though they are autobiographical adventure stories. The series originated in Italy and has become the most popular children's book series in that country. The books have been translated into 35 languages.' Yep. THIRTY-FIVE languages. That mouse sure has some kind of magic about him!
Mr. Stilton has placed my kids under a spell.
So let's take full advantage of the Stilton craze to keep those children hitting the books! An additional bonus to buying Stilton = these titles are first chapter books. Books that are not-too-long and not-too-short. They help bridge the gap between easy picture books and children's novels. Never mind the teacher talk, though. These books are FUN! They are ALL THE RAGE! So let's jump onto that bandwagon! MORE STILTON, PLEASE!
