Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students work hard at trying to gain a deeper understanding of math concepts. My students face many challenges coming from a low income area, but, despite their various backgrounds, they are always ready and willing to work every day.
I work with a wonderful group of 7th grade students.
They are a fun-loving bunch of students who make each day a new adventure! My students have wide ranging abilities, reading levels, and English proficiency. They attend a large inner city public school. Most of my students come from low income families, and all of my students qualify for free lunch.
My Project
When students are motivated and engaged in the classroom we see the best outcomes for our students. I am trying to adapt my classroom to help create a higher learning environment through engagement, collaboration and comfort for my students.
I have witnessed a change in my students commitment to their learning and student engagement through the use of alternative seating this year.
I want to bring more seating opportunities to my students. A flexible classroom invites collaboration, and allows for a more engaging environment. Being comfortable somehow allows students to stay on task and maintain engagement. They are excited to come into the classroom and choose where they would like to sit.
I can't wait to add more options of seating with the yoga ball chairs and camp chairs to our classroom. I know that more students will be able to find places that they are comfortable to learn and work in our classroom!
