This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have seen students at our school not really interested in reading books. Our curriculum books are very dry and do not spark the children's interest. Most other students like to read Graphic Novels. Those are good but they do not take you away in your imagination.
My goal is to make sure that every student in my class gets a box set of books 5-9.
At the start I puchased book one for every student and they were so motivated to keep reading. Some of the parents purchased set 1-4 but only about 1/3 . When we were reading book 2 together it was not working as well. The older copies I got from the library or used book stores, did not align with the new version. And it brokoe my heart to see so many sharing and not having their own book. They found books they are interested in and they now want to read, so I want to make sure all the students have the same opportunity .
My students are very low income and have been through a lot. These students I had some for Zoom in TK.. Sadly I had many for first and left mid year with Breast Cancer. I hated to leave them. I returned the end of March and had a few of these kids for second. This year I am in third grade and I feel like it is a do over for the kids and myself. . They are the kindest , most caring students but they are overall lower in academics. So I want to get them to love books and to see them reading Magic Tree House they are seeing what books can do and take you away .
