My Project
Our school year is off to a great start and the students are ready to get our raised bed garden up and running! We have room for a few more raised beds, and these oval metal beds are the best! We have some rectangular beds we got last year but we will be taking those out and replacing them with these oval ones instead. We also need more rolling shelves to put pots, tags, hand tools and potting mix ingredients on.
My students are excited to set up the beds and learn how to plant seedlings to put in the beds.
Our first order of business is learning to make potting mix and planting the 10,000 different kinds of seeds we have to see what grows best in our garden. After the plants mature and we can pick the beans, radishes, okra, etc., the kids will learn how to prepare it and eat it. They love the eating part! All of this collaborative learning teaches them to be an employee with skills like dependability, ability to follow directions, self-directed learner, and more that any employer will be happy to employ. I want to prepare my students for the real world so that they are successful human beings in whatever path they may choose!
