My Students

Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives, and school is their safe place. They come to school to escape what is happening at home. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.

The typical student in my class struggles with basic phonemic awareness and letter recognition.

About 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.

My Project

I am requesting new blue tables for my students. Currently, we have old tables that are all different sizes and shapes, and pretty beat up. They don't fit in the classroom properly. The chairs do not fit under the current tables. So they stick out and cause students to trip. I am asking for long rectangular tables that the students can sit at comfortably. They will all have extra space to do their work. And be able to push their chairs in, so it will cut down on tripping. I hope that with these new tables, there will be more structure and balance in our classroom.
