I teach about fifteen students with learning disabilities in elementary school. Students I work with have behavioral, intellectual, emotional, and physical needs. They appreciate having a variety of choices depending on their individual needs at specific times of the day.
My students benefit from hands-on learning in a calm, quiet, and comfortable environment.
Students with a variety of needs use my class work space, so it needs to be set up creatively. Communication, social, and academic skills are built in my classroom.
I teach math to students in grades 1-6. However, because many students struggle with mathematical concepts, I often need to review foundational skills. If students are reluctant to engage in math because they are lacking in basic skills, playing games motivates students to learn.
I hope to acquire K-5 math materials, including fraction games and magnets; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division games; and manipulatives to measure volume which will improve student learning.
These games and activities will be introduced and practiced in my classroom. Then I will send the games and activities home with students in their math bags so they can master these skills at home.
