I teach at a Title I neighborhood high school. Our population is diverse, and most students continue their education in traditional four-year colleges and universities. My students are already working hard in my AP Literature and Composition class, and I want to make their educational experience in the class as beneficial as possible!
This year, my students are reading various novels, poetry, and short stories to prepare for May's AP Literature and Composition exam.
The Awakening is a classic piece of literature that will allow us to connect to other literature this year through themes, characters, and complexity. The Awakening is frequently referenced on the AP Literature exam as part of selected passages for response, as well as for suggested novels to reference when answering one of the essays. Incorporating this book into the curriculum will further support my students as they work hard this year to learn the skills and concepts that will help them succeed on the exam and in college.
