My Students
My students are beginning to learn letter sounds, high frequency words, and practicing sounding out words. But they need leveled readers so they can practice reading independently and fluently. Help us bring these much needed readers into our classroom!
Our urban school is in a high poverty area and serves many low income families and students who are English language learners.
The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and 85% of them qualify for free/reduced price school lunch. My energetic, diverse class of Kindergarteners represent a plethora of cultures and linguistic backgrounds. My students are: Latino, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, African American, Russian, mixed heritages- Korean/Caucasian, Filipino/Cambodian, and Filipino/Latino.
My Project
As my students start learning words and begin their reading journey. They desire a variety of books that will be motivating, visually stimulating, and engaging. The math, science, and social studies leveled readers will give them the opportunity to choose a new topic they want to learn about. Having the leveled readers will give them the confidence to aim towards independent reading success. Help us create future growing readers!
These leveled readers will enhance our classroom library and our guided reading groups.
The students will read as group, partner read, and read independently on their own. With these wonderful new books, they will learn about science around our world, the people around us, learn about animals, and learn how to count and add. The possibilities are limitless.
