Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My Head Start students come from the inner-city and do not have as many advantages as students from other areas. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to make sure they have what they need to learn and succeed in school and in the world. I teach at a Title I school in Nebraska, which means that ninety-three percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.

My students are amazing and I am proud to be their teacher!

They come to school eager to learn and are curious about the world around them. My school is a safe place for them, a place for them to be nurtured, loved, and prepared for the future. Covid has affected them but they have been resilient and pushed through.

My Project

I was recently funded for a Lego Duplo set with people and storage tubs. My kids are loving them! Lego and Duplo blocks are a consistent favorite toy in my preschool classroom. The children really enjoy building with them and are so creative.

My students would benefit greatly from these materials: The STEAM Park and animals would provide many hours of creativity and open ended learning.

It is my goal to have the Legos in different areas of our classroom. They are currently in the Block Center, but I also have a rotating center that the STEAM Park would be perfect for.
