My Students

My students are eager middle school students who have been hit hard by the economy over the last few years. They are always willing to help me out, they come in with smiles on their faces, and are always excited when I have something new for them to learn. They are inquisitive teenagers ready to take on the world! They are always willing to explore new ideas and think critically and outside the box while in my classroom. It is always nice to watch them mature and grow throughout the year!

My Project

I am requesting Legos and Lego idea books to aide my students in their abilities to create civilizations with their hands. Working in groups, my students create "towns and villages" from long ago. They take what we have learned about history and bring those ideas to life. They take their creations and put history on paper. They create rules and laws, consequences and labor, homes and farms. They take a 2 dimensional thought and make it 3 dimensional. They construct what they have in their minds about what it used to look like and we work from there.

Legos are a universal "toy" that is enjoyed as a young kid up to adulthood.

My students love to learn with hands on activities. Legos and idea books will allow students the chance to use their imaginations while applying the skills we are currently learning in social studies. From building new civilizations, to learning about geography,

Legos have magical powers in teaching and learning. It teaches students their ideas matter, working in groups is important for working in a society, and it gives students a hands on experience when it is needed most.

Often my students do not have access to Legos, or enough to get their idea to come to life, so these additional Legos in my classroom will help them with their projects.
