I have a 2nd grade class full of students that love science. Most of my students are performing below grade level and come from low income and foreign cultures.
Our science books did not come with manipulative's and our county budget does not allow for me to order any. My students are very visual and hands on learners. It is hard to teach science that my students understand without something for them to see and touch.
I would love to be able to teach life cycles to my students by using real insects like frogs and praying mantis instead of pictures in a text book. I can only imagine their excitement when they see a tadpole turn into a frog! They could use weather kits to track our weather using instruments meteorologists use and matter kits to see solids turn to liquid and other exciting experiments.
My students live in a community where they will not get to do experiments at home with their families. With your help I could expose my students to science like they have never seen and get them excited about science.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
