Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Math is taught and understood best with hands-on learning. Many materials are needed for this to happen.

My kindergarten students learn best with hands-on interactive learning.

I teach at a Renaissance school with all but two students on free lunch. The families at my school are hard-working. Many of them do not speak English. They often cannot help their children with simple homework. Although these are just some of the obstacles we face, my students are expected to perform the same as children at high socioeconomic schools. We, as teachers at my school, just have to work harder!

My Project

The materials being requested are critical for learning many concepts such as counting, adding and subtracting and measurement. These are hard concepts for kindergarten students to grasp, especially with language barriers. With the measurement center, they will be able to use the materials to demonstrate understanding of concepts such as longer, shorter, taller, heavier and lighter. With the counting center, they will be able to count the number of links being shown on the cards. The cubes can be used for all areas of math including counting, measuring, adding and subtracting.

These materials will help my students by providing them with more hands-on learning.

There are many expectations for the students as well as teachers that these materials will be very helpful for all. These materials will be able to be used in whole group, partner work, small groups and individual work. It will benefit all of my students and help them be successful in math.
