Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Last year I started a board game club at my high school. Since Covid, students seem to be struggling finding their motivation for schooling. Many students are simply drifting through their high school experience without a “why” to motivate them to engage in this experience. I am hoping this club can be a "why" for some students and get them excited about school again. This club offers students the chance to work on developing some foundational learning skills through playing games. These games will have students using a variety of dice, card, and board games to develop and grow several foundational learning skills. Students will work on their ability to self-start, critically think, problem solve, cooperate/collaborate, and explore. I believe students need more opportunities to be creative and competitive within the educational setting. Not every student fits into the traditional options (sports, drama, and music). I believe this esport opportunity will help my board game club expand to a broader range of students. Thank you for providing myself and other teachers this opportunity to advocate for our students and the programs we provide for them.
