Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a third grade class of 27 fun-loving, active students who are hardworking and eager to succeed and learn. Despite some of their struggles, they walk in every day with smiles on their faces, eager to learn and give everything they have. They motivate me to become a better teacher.
I want to make sure that they have all they need and more when they leave my classroom.
Each child comes from a unique background and often needs support. My class includes students that are gifted and talented, struggling readers, students with attention difficulties, and English Language Learners.
My Project
Children from low-income households have a special need to be exposed to technology at school since many of them are not able to access it at home. I still remember when I first started teaching, I dreaded students asking questions I did not know the answer to because they answer was to look it up for extra credit. These days, I welcome those questions because we now have the answers at our fingertips on a tablet or even our phones.
Our children are growing up in a world that is technology driven, our classrooms should provide them with opportunities to learn to use latest technology.
The Amazon Echo will allow my third graders to ask questions and get answers right away.
It is especially helpful for my English learners. They can just ask without the need to spell out what they want to know or needing someone to read them the answer. Just ask Alexa a question and listen to the answer!
The students will enjoy a new level of independence as they are able to seek answers to their questions without help from an adult. At the same time, the students will have a new great place, the inflatable couch that can be moved around the room, to sit in their small group for a collaborative research. Who knows, maybe one of them will become the next great inventor!
