Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students in my school are currently going through test prep and are more stressed out than usual. As their Spanish teacher, I feel that it is my responsibility to give them a break from the more intense parts of their day while still ensuring that they are developing and improving their proficiency in Spanish. To do this, I am hoping to include more games as an assessment of their proficiency. I hope to be the class that they can breath in and not feel the pressure to perform as they are feeling in their other classes as they will be able to demonstrate understanding the material in a low-stakes, enjoyable manner.
We would like Jenga, Connect Four and playing cards.
My middle school consists of 973 students, 96.4% of whom are socioeconomically disadvantaged.
Students are feeling the pressure to perform now more than ever as they are hoping to prove how much they have grown and learned in the last year. With these materials, students will have a safe space where they are learning in the least stressful setting possible while also having fun.
