My Students

I have 19 students in my second-grade classroom, at a magnet school in Hartford, Connecticut. Each of my students come from diverse backgrounds and are eager to learn every day! Many of them face daily challenges that can make staying focused and engaged during the long school day, difficult. However, my students come to school every day excited and always ready to try their hardest. We work hard to create a safe, happy, and comfortable school and classroom environment for everyone to learn.

My Project

We have returned to school for in-person learning, but with that comes many restrictions due to Covid. My classroom is normally a free choice of flexible seating, which makes our classroom a comfortable learning environment. As of right now, my students are not able to have flexible seating free choice and they each need to have their own materials. I am always looking for new ways to make my students comfortable and provide some type of flex seating. Currently, they are only allowed their standard chair, which becomes uncomfortable and doesn't work for all of my students. Many of them move around throughout the day and go from sitting on their desk to sitting on the floor. I want to provide each of my students their own wobble cushion so as they move around or stay in their seat, they can sit comfortably on the wobble cushion, and even move around on it if needed. This year has come with many challenges, and I want my students to feel comfortable and engaged while they are learning. Flexible seating is the best way to provide this to them and give them a small sense of normalcy!
