This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love to learn, they love to develop and apply new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and our families are mostly hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.
My students have been asking for more books about their favorite characters for our elementary library media center!
The books I am requesting are part of the 5-Minute Stories collection; each book includes many stories about favorite characters, from princesses to superheroes! These series has been very popular in our library - they rarely make it back on the shelf for long! These titles will help us complete the series!
Our library collection needs to include books that students want to read, with characters that they are familiar and comfortable with, especially for our emerging readers who are developing their love of reading, and our struggling readers, who are motivated when they find a book that is familiar and feels safe. It's so important for students to have access to the books that they want to read, to keep them motivated and foster their love of reading!
Our amazing elementary complex library serves 2000+ students in four schools, and as I continue to cultivate it into a 21st-century library media center and learning hub where students can collaborate and learn, I am constantly working to update the materials and resources that students are accessing!
