My Students

Last year DonorsChoose.org graciously donated a wonderful wireless Listening Center to our classroom. Now that our class size is increasing, the size of our reading groups has also increased, so the immediate need for more headphones has become apparent.

I teach at a Title 1 school where a large percentage of our students are on free or reduced lunch.

The home lives and backgrounds of our students are beautifully diverse which is embraced and sometimes challenging. The bottom line is we need to make every moment at school an effective and engaging learning experience since many of them go home to the arms of a television or video game. Our number one priority is making our class a safe and inviting place to learn!

My Project

This year we used the wireless Listening Center that DonorsChoose.org graciously donated to our classroom. It was amazing how quiet and engaged the children were while they were listening to books without the chaos of dealing with cords! However, we were always one or two headphones short as students were added to our class or one headphone had a glitch. Next year we expect another increase in class size, so our need for extra headphones is apparent. We would surely appreciate a few extra pairs of headphones to make sure every child in their reading group has a working set.

It's quite simple that we strive to make sure all students are engaged even when they are at an independent station like the Listening Center.

A complete set of working headphones would ensure that all students can enjoy the stories.
