My Project

We know what it takes to make young readers successful readers thanks to the body of scientific research done on how our brains learn to read. Direct phonics instruction is the key to growing readers!

Giving students access to decodable texts that match the spelling patterns they've learned improves not only their reading ability but also their self-confidence.

But not all decodable texts are created equal!

One criticism decodable texts receive is that they're not engaging for students. Enter Dynamic Decodables! Not only do these decodable books align to our curriculum, they are in formats that kids love, like graphic novels. The description says, "Make first grade phonics irresistible for early learners with 36 fun and trade-like decodable books—engaging, beautifully designed, and including titles authored by reading expert Wiley Blevins."

These decodable books would be the perfect supplement to our reading curriculum because they're already aligned to the spelling patterns that we teach and it would allow me to have more texts that students can use to grow their skills and fall in love with reading. The format of these decodables is more like the literature they see at the library. Fun stories, diverse characters, and formats like graphic novels and comics that kids can't get enough of ensure that kids are exposed to a variety of reading formats. There is something to love for all readers!
