Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been teaching first grade for eight years. In August I will have the privilege of teaching kindergarten again after 12 years of first grade. I feel just like an incoming kindergartener, excited for a new and exciting adventure of learning.
Many of the students entering my classroom will be doing so for the first time, therefore they are coming into the school year very eager to learn.
Our school strives to create independent, critical thinking, lifelong learners who persevere through challenges, are socially conscious, and are equipped to lead in the 21st century. All of my students this year receive free breakfast and lunch. More than 85 percent of my students are English Language Learners with a multitude of different home languages.
My Project
I want to give my students the choice of seating that enables them the ability to be engaged and succeed in learning. By having a choice of sitting on a couch, in a bean bag chair, on a stool, at a picnic table or portable floor desk students are able to have many options. By adding the nonconventional choices of seating students will be able to find one that feels comfortable to them. Maybe they are comfortable sitting on a couch or a bean bag chair with a clipboard or a stool up against a bar top, perhaps sitting on the floor with a with a portable desk top or even a fun picnic table.
Whatever their choice, they have a variety of options because of your donation.
By giving students a choice they will be able to take ownership of their learning. They are empowered to do their best because it was their choice. Also, they have the opportunity to meet their own needs. Students that need extra space to stretch out can utilize the couch, or bean bag chair, students that are social butterflies can sit at the picnic table and work with a group, or students that prefer quiet with less distraction can use a floor desk in a spot that is conducive to that. Your donation will help fund this project and give my students this all empowering choice.
