Hello my name is Timothy Trotto, I am an American Sign Language (ASL) deaf teacher who teaches about 146 students, who are hearing in ASL 1 and 3 at the STHS. My coworker teaches about 146 students in both ASL 1 and 3. Our school is a great work environment with students who are eager to learn the language and experience deaf culture. Classifiers are signs that are used to represent general categories or "classes" of things. They can be used to describe the size and shape of an object (or person). They can be used to represent the object itself, or the way the object moves or relates to other objects (or people). Classifiers is very challenging for hearing high school students because English rarely has no Classifiers at all.
I can teach my students in a much more fulfilling way with the use of these Classifiers: A Closer Look streaming videos .
It is only the best curriculum for ASL students so far.
With this my students will be able to see ASL classifiers clearly. In order to teach them I display videos with the use of Classifiers: A Closer Look streaming videos.
I'm requesting funding to use DVDs and videos for sign language classes because my students need feedback from me as a deaf teacher with more signing experience, so that they can improve their abilities to advance on their sign language.
A Sign of Respect 2 is an online program used in our ASL high school classes.
We already have Part 1 and now, Part 2 will give students more challenging to deal with the conflict between both hearing and deaf cultures.
This online program/workbook subscription series is for students who have enrolled in an ASL high school classes that is using the Classifiers: A Closer Look curriculum. The curriculum is composed of five units; there is one student online program/workbook for each unit. Classifiers is a very challenging experience, so this curriculum has the best bridging concept like scaffolding for them to learn more on their Classifiers' skills.
These videos will make students interested in enhancing their skills in this area.
Classifiers are challenging to understand and to use well, regardless of one’s experience.
