Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the privilege of working with an incredible bunch of kindergarten students. They live in a community with varying socioeconomic backgrounds, but predominantly low income. The school is Title 1 and all students receive free lunch and free breakfast. Their families work long hours and two-thirds of my class stay in the after school program, or extended care with babysitters.
A couple of my students are identified with special need eligibility, but they are all pretty special in their own right.
Their high energy and active spirit requires a whole lot of juggling and differentiation in my instructional delivery. I am looking to provide tools that can support my students in managing and channeling their energy so that they may focus on the instruction and we may increase learning.
My Project
In all my years teaching early primary, the excited energy the students bring to the classroom can be a disruption. But if harnessed and channeled appropriately, that same high energy can be converted into productive learning. The Bouncy bands will provide the much needed outlet to absorb any excess energy that may disrupt or distract anyone.
When students are focused and balanced, learning takes place and academic achievement is increased.
The chair Bouncy Bands will be accessible to all students whenever they are attending to any seated work at their desks. The students will be able to place one or both feet on the bands to bounce out any excess physical energy without leaving their seats!
