This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are building strong reading skills in the classroom. Our phonics instruction is strong.
Students now need to practice these skills on their own at home.
They need a set of books that they can take home and return each day to practice specific phonics patterns that we have been learning in small group instruction. This set of books would be specific to the intensive and strategic students that need practice in specific consonant and vowel patterns. These books look and feel like a chapter book. Students can build confidence until they can read an actual chapter book.
I give each child a list of books from a set. They hang the list on the classroom wall with their names. Then they read the books and highlight the books as they complete them. They are motivated to read through each book in each series. Thank you for considering this request! Your kindness is appreciated.
