Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I currently have a group of 20 fabulous second graders in a dual language classroom. They live in a low income, high poverty-stricken inner city community in northern New Jersey. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom due to their socioeconomic status and their varying linguistic abilities. Despite this, they all come to school every day ready, willing and excited to learn! They tackle challenges and strive to do their best. They are resilient, respectful, and hardworking students.
My Project
My classroom library is always a go to spot for my students. Looking for and finding a great book and a cozy spot to read is what my students enjoy, and I would love for them to continue to choose and enjoy a variety of books to read independently during reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to continue to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
