Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being at our school for several years, I have gotten the chance to really get to know many of the students in the school, including those I have never taught. Many of them have gone through seriously adverse situations and misfortunes that impact their everyday life, especially their education. I am amazed at how resilient they can be, and how they push through to the best of their abilities regardless of hardships that affect them. Being a fifth-grade teacher has shown me how fast some students have to mature. I have taught their younger siblings in previous years (coming up from kindergarten and first grade) and see how they take care of their family. Each child that I have gotten to know at this school has my heart.
I want nothing but the best for all of these students, and that includes giving them hands-on experiences that will be memorable to them.
My students need to be able to feel like school isn't another one of their draining duties or work. I want all of them to enjoy school and look forward to each day in my class, whether in person or virtually. They truly deserve the best!
My Project
My students have been requesting more books to read at home, which has been a request I’ve loved fulfilling for them. I’m now striving to get books that are more appropriate reading levels for some of my lower readers.
Although my students are in the fifth grade, I don’t want them to feel like they can’t indulge in a good book because it’s too difficult for them.
This is why this second order of books is specifically geared towards my English a language learners. All of my students deserve the opportunity to read a book that is fitting for them and their needs.
