My Students

Our school is a Title I public school located in a high poverty area. I teach a bilingual self-contained classroom with both fourth and fifth graders. There is a wide range of abilities in my classroom, like autism, intellectual disabilities, and speech and language impairments. All of my students are English language learners.

One thing my students have in common is the desire to read.

They love to read all the time! My students are hard-working and inquisitive. They come to school ready to learn every day.

My Project

My students read a lot every day. In the morning, they read books as soon as they walk through the door and while the teacher checks their homework in the morning. Students get to read anything they choose from the library in this short period of time. They can read any books they choose; from any reading levels. They love it! If you come to my classroom in the morning, you will see everyone holding a book and enjoy this special reading time.

Recently, my students have been asking me for new books because they have read through most books in the classroom library!

Many of my students show a great interest in character traits, mysteries and holidays. That is why I picked books with strong characters, fun mysteries and holiday themes on my list. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve student reading skills, but also help to open a completely new world for them through books!

Books of interests to students are the best gateway to better reading skills for my busy readers! Thank you so much for your support!
