My Students

My students are smart, talented and brave young men and women who face many challenges daily. With different mental and physical disabilities, the environment is challenging.

Our talents are often unnoticed because we are overwhelmed with noises, lights and other stimuli that their grade level peers are able to ignore.

Once the students become calm and comfortable, their talents shine. They are able to attend classes with students who do not have disabilities, and also special programs and field trips.

My Project

Swinging can play a very beneficial role within a special education classroom. Swinging can be calming or altering to children depending on their individual needs. Swinging is a common playground activity but for my students, it becomes a necessity.

Swinging on a swing increases body awareness and helps improve core and upper body strength which lead to many academic skills.

Swinging can be altering and increase blood flow to the brain that will raise endorphins and wake up a sleepy brain. When students are alert and calm, they are more successful in the classroom.
