Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a Montessori school in which our students start by learning practical life skills which they will use in everyday life. Our students are an amazing group of 3 - 6 year olds. They stay in our classroom for a three year cycle. The relationships that they develop are inspiring.
Our students come to us from an urban environment in which resources run scarce and teachers have to find imaginative ways to engage our students.
Most of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunches, however they come to school eager to learn.
My Project
In the Montessori classroom, students are encouraged to explore their world.
This table will allow the students to receive instruction in phonics, early reading skills, and writing activities.
We will also do multi-sensory activities at the table. Students will be able work independently on practical life skills with the teacher guiding them as needed. Montessori philosophy believes that students should be allowed to explore and learn at their own pace.
This resource will allow the students to experience these activities in a small groups setting which Maria Montessori believed was critical for them to truly understand and master these areas.
