Montessori Cultural Subjects Literature

My students need quality, age-appropriate literature, including 3 sets of Photo Books, Solar System Fact Books, Life Cycles Vocabulary Readers and a Continents of the World Activity Chest.

I teach a multi-level (1st, 2nd & 3rd) classroom. We are in a public school option program that teaches children through the use of the Montessori Educational Philosophy of independent learning.

Because of our philosophy, my job as a teacher is more to guide the students to and through discoveries to which they happen upon on their own. Students use many non-fiction texts to gain knowledge of cultural subject topics we are studying. In Montessori, cultural subjects include social studies, science and geography. They are the drive to our curriculum. Reading, language and occasionally math, are directly connected to the cultural subject we are studying at that time. Currently we are studying the five classes of vertebrates and the students are loving it! But it is again, an area we are lacking on quality literature.

I have been keeping lists and browsing the internet for quality literature on multiple cultural topics. Through the DonorsChoose.org teacher store, I was able to find many of the non-fiction texts I had been searching for. They include the animal classes of vertebrates, animal habitats, life cycles and the solar system. These resources will benefit this class and many to come. The books will be out and available to the students throughout the year (not just while we are studying the topic), and will give the quality, age-appropriate information my students thrive on.

Through donations for our cultural subjects literature, you will help my students develop understanding of the world around them. Because our curriculum is centered around the Montessori cultural subjects, you will not only help them succeed in the cultural subjects, but also in their reading, language and vocabulary skills.
